Meet 3 MORE “Shades” of Sinatra!

We are pleased to introduce you to our 3 newest subs at Shades of Sinatra…please meet the VERY talented Bruce Hammond, Betsy Holm & Nik Mastrangelo!

BRUCE HAMMOND (filling in for LARRY) A Theatre Performance graduate of Western Michigan University, Bruce Hammond has been performing professionally for over 20 years.  Bruce is very proud to have been a part of Augusta, Michigan’s Barn Theatre where he earned his Actor’s Equity Card.  A veteran of over 30 plays and musicals, including A Street Car Named Desire, Jesus Christ Superstar, City of Angels and South Pacific (National Tour), 14 production shows for Princess Cruise Lines and over a dozen films as a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, Bruce is a multi-talented performer.  Since growing up in Michigan, his career has taken him from New York to Hollywood to Santa Fe and now here to Las Vegas.  Bruce is thrilled to join the cast of Shades and is grateful for the opportunity to pay tribute to his favorite singer of all time, Frank Sinatra!  He can also be seen as Ben “Bugsy” Siegel in the Las Vegas Mob Experience at the Tropicana. (Opening August 27, 2011)

BETSY HOLM (filling in for LISA) Originally from Pasadena, CA, Betsy has been performing in Las Vegas for the past 17 years.  She started out singing in musicals in the Los Angeles area (Evita, 42nd Street and The Importance Of Being Earnest to name a few), as well as rockbands on the Sunset Strip, but eventually ended up in Las Vegas, Nevada!  Most of her time in Las Vegas has been performing in the lounge act circuit in rock/pop bands, but Betsy currently works as a solo act playing acoustic guitar and singing (Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay, House of Blues, Texas Station, the M Resort & Casino, and MANY more).  She also plays steel drums and congas and is a seasoned studio vocalist, so you may hear Betsy on the radio singing on a jingle or two. In addition, Betsy is an accomplished songwriter, having her original songs featured in movies for both CBS and the Lifetime channel! (Opening September 27, 2011)

NIK MASTRANGELO (filling in for CARMINE) It was his love for the classic tunes from the golden era of song and for the masters who made them famous that led Nikolas “Nik at Nite” Mastrangelo to discover and develop his performing talent. With the special touch of singing select tunes in Italian and Spanish, Nik also performs the best known classics from greats like Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole and Bobby Darin. No other artist has had more of an impact on Nik than “The Chairman” himself, Frank Sinatra. During the twilight of his performing career Mr. Sinatra befriended Nik and gave him an open invitation to see his shows from backstage on The Las Vegas Strip. Taking that inspiration, Nik has since honed his skills as a performer being backed by the very best of the Vegas musical community including Gus Mancuso (multi-talented musician who worked for many years with the likes of Sarah Vaughan, Billy Eckstine and the Mary Kaye Trio), Vinnie Falcone (pianist and former accompanist and conductor for Frank Sinatra, and recently with Tony Bennett and Steve and Eydie), and a host of other band and studio musicians. He’s had numerous return engagements at the Railhead at Boulder Station, the Chrome Room at the Santa Fe Station, the Bootlegger Bistro, and was a regular featured performer in the Plaza Hotel Showroom. Additionally, he is a frequent guest of the popular duo Zowie Bowie when they perform with their big band and has also frequently appeared on the TV show “At Your Request” where he, along with Vince Falcone and other noted artists donate their time and talents to support musical scholarships for young aspiring musicians. Nik has a repertoire of over 450 songs which consist of the very best jazz and standards of American popular music. Nik is at home singing with single piano accompaniment or any size group or orchestra, bringing a touch of class, romance and excitement to any event with a heartfelt passion that is evident in every measure. (Opened August 6, 2011)

Meet the New “Shades” of Sinatra — Our SUBS!

We are excited to introduce you to a few of our new SUBS!!! These are the first four subs to have officially been hired by the producer, and they will each have their “opening night” during the month of June. We are truly honored to have such great talent on board!

A quick reminder to anyone who auditioned last month: as was mentioned at the auditions, we will be needing several more subs in the future, and the producer has not finished hiring everyone yet…so you may still get a call. Please be patient…we’ve got LOTS of different projects in the works!

In the meantime, please meet our first four…OPENING SOON!

LOU DE MEIS (filling in for CARMINE) has worked as a singer/actor on both coasts, throughout his career. He worked primarily on the East Coast  and Canada, until 3 years ago when he moved to Las Vegas. He has appeared in many films and commercials and plied his craft in Musical and Legit Theater. His favorite roles include Billy Flynn in CHICAGO and the title role in DRACULA (other theatre credits include the roles of El Gallo in The Fantasticks, Herr Schultz in Cabaret, Henry II in The Lion in Winter and Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar). In the 90’s, he worked for an extended time with Barry Manilow and has performed in most of  Atlantic City’s casinos. In his spare time, Lou LOVES to play basketball and softball! He is tickled to death to be working in “Shades of Sinatra” with this extremely talented cast. You can find out more about Lou at his website: www.loudemeis.com

CRAIG CANTER (filling in for LARRY) is a Philadelphia/South Jersey native. He has always aspired to sing, and being the owner of a nightclub at age twenty-four gave him the opportunity! This led him to travel with Hollywood Superstars as a Neil Diamond and Engelbert Humperdinck tribute artist where he played casinos from Las Vegas to Atlantic City to Tunica, Mississippi. Craig has performed the National Anthem several times for South Jersey’s exclusive Polo Club, as well as the Philadelphia 76ers NBA team, and sang at the Republican convention in Philadelphia. Throughout the years, Craig has performed for and hosted various charity events, including the American Heart Association and Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS foundation), and has sung with numerous well-known celebrities such as heavyweight champ Smokin’ Joe Frazier and the Knockouts, The Skyliners, Dovells, Frankie Avalon, and Ben E. King. In the late 90’s, Craig even had his own radio and cable TV variety show where he sang and performed skits! Here in Las Vegas, Craig was one of the headliners in the “Rockin’ and Romancin’ Show” at Gold Coast Casino in which he did tributes to Neil Diamond, Engelbert Humperdink, The Everly Brothers, and the Mamas and the Papas. For the past few years, Craig has been the General Manager of a transportation company (LIMOUSINE & SHUTTLE BUS) and now makes his home at the Alan Waxler Group. Craig is very excited for the opportunity to return to the stage in “Shades of Sinatra.”

SANDRA HUNTSMAN (filling in for LISA) is a singer, actress and musical theatre performer. Singing is her true passion and she loves to sing many styles of music, from opera to musical theatre to rock and roll! Her stage credits include Emma in Jekyll & Hyde, Eliza in My Fair Lady, Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Amneris in Elton John & Tim Rice’s AIDA and Andrea in Once On This Island. Sandra performs frequently in cabarets, concerts and revues throughout the Las Vegas area.. She recently recorded for Jack Kent Tillar and is working on her own CD. In addition to all her performing, Sandra is a costume designer and creator/founder of Princess Celebrations, which provides high quality character entertainment. Sandra is married to award winning local theatrical director Steve Huntsman and they have four beautiful children! www.sandrahuntsman.com

JEFF CELENTANO (filling in for RYAN) started his musical career by playing keyboard in bar bands long before he was old enough to drink. Listening to his incredible Sinatra-style solo voice, you would never know he comes from a mostly rock and roll background, having shared the stage with classic artists such as America, The Little River Band, and occasionally  touring in the backing band for legendary founding member of The Beach Boys, Al Jardine. Currently Jeff can be seen performing in the Beach Boys tribute band, Good Vibrations, is a founding member of the popular indie pop band Tripsitter with whom he’s released two critically acclaimed albums, and also sings with the popular vocal jazz quartet Fifth Avenue!  As a solo piano performer, Jeff recently completed a contract with Carnival Cruise Lines as the featured Piano Bar Entertainer in “Billie’s Piano Bar” aboard the Carnival Legend during the Summer/Fall of 2009. In addition, Jeff was most recently the keyboardist and lead vocalist for comedian/impressionist/television star, Frank Caliendo for his long running show at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. www.jeffsounds.net

Lots of GREAT Talent at the Auditions!

Last Saturday we held our auditions for subs and possible swing roles for our show at the Clarion. Those auditioning had to prepare 2 Sinatra songs (1 up-tempo and 1 ballad) and perform them in the theater in front of everyone else auditioning (WAY more fun than singing to a couple of people sitting behind a table). Fortunately, Sinatra recorded over 1700 songs throughout his career, so they had a LOT of great music to choose from! And even though we had over 60 people audition, I don’t think we heard the same song more than twice…well, maybe three times. :)

It was tough, but we narrowed it down to about 18 people that we invited to a call-back this past Thursday (see photo above). Wow, some really great talent! All I have to say is, I am SOOO glad that the CAST doesn’t have to make the final decisions about who to choose, because it’s gonna be tough. Ray Wolf, I don’t envy your job!!! Good luck to all those who auditioned…we should hear a final decision in a few days!
